The Plymouth MDT 25 ton Switcher is a small, four-wheel industrial diesel locomotive produced in the 1960’s by the now defunct Plymouth Locomotive Works. There are many variations of this chassis making them mostly unique in display over the years of service (few survive today), and this model has a few potential varieties, such as front and rear exhaust options, shuttered and exposed grill, removeable front and rear steps.
I am getting back into model railroading and picked up an HO version of a similar Plymouth in the Conrail paint scheme a few years ago which started my interest in making one in 3D for fun. I have started collecting these in both HO and N scale and did a few of my more favorite paint jobs I have found at shows.
It's hard to find information on these little units as they phased out of yard work as loads got heavier and heavier, but I really enjoy the look of them. Most model train manufacturers made small engines like these, but changed details and layouts, maybe to get out of copyrights as they aren't directly called Plymouths, but you can definitely see the source in them.
